2021 is finally here and what’s a better way to start afresh than to reflect on the lessons that we have received throughout the year. While we are still early on, here are 4 important things that we have learned, as a business, from the year 2020.

Embrace Technology

As stay-at-home and social distancing become the new normal, doing business online has also become the common standard for many small enterprises. Digitalising your operations and continuing to explore new technologies can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your business, especially in times of uncertainty.

Be flexible & Adaptable

2020 was a roller coaster ride for most businesses in many different industries, from a 6-month lockdown and curfews to finally opening up with health-measurements in place. By continuing to improve and explore different approaches and strategies, businesses can be more prepared and adaptive towards changes. This is an important approach to adopt, as it supports businesses’ sustainability in the long run.

Protecting Your Digital Asset is Key

As businesses began shifting online, cyber security is something that business owners should pay extra attention to. Undertaking major steps to ensure the safety of your digital assets are a must. This could include having an SSL Certificate for your site, upgrading security software, and providing adequate training to employees about the topic.

Take Care of Yourselves and Your Employees

Working from home can and does have positive impacts on your employees. But the downside is, it can get challenging in establishing a work-life balance and take care of ourselves. Aside from re-aligning your business’ goals, it is also important to ensure that your people are receiving an adequate amount of support from the company. To do so, make time for weekly catch-up, establish clear work-life boundaries, communicate openly, and allow them to take time off when needed.
