WordPress Help: How it Works
We measure all of our WordPress support services in ‘small tasks’ - updating the phone number in your header and footer might be a single small task, while a larger task, like installing and configuring a contact form on your website may require you to purchase 2-3 small tasks. When you submit a request for work to be done, we will let you know how many 'small tasks' you need to purchase for us to complete the task.
Need help with your WordPress website?
WordPress Plugin Installation and Configuration
One of the most frequently requested WordPress tasks we get asked for help with is installing and configuring new plugins on websites. One of the best features about WordPress is the huge library of free and paid plugins that add additional functionality to your website at the click of a button. But while some plugins are quick and easy to install, others are a bit more complex and require configuration to ensure that they are operating the way you want them to.
WP Sparks can help you research, select, install and configure new plugins for your website to add additional features and functionality.
Some of the most frequently requested plugins include:
to add an online store and payment functionality to your website
to add additional layers of security to your WordPress website
manage events and rsvps on your website
display your Instagram or Facebook feed on your website
interactive maps so your customers can find you
Integrate with MailChip or Campaign Monitor for email marketing
Contact forms that use logic and custom fields
Grab your visitor’s attention with a pop-up message or subscribe box
WordPress Theme Customisation
Theme customisation is another area that we are frequently asked to help with WordPress websites. Themes are a great way to save money when building a WordPress website, but often there are few little things you’d like to change – make your logo bigger, change the style of the navigation menu, make changes to your h1, h2, h3 tags, change the fonts and colours, make the footer smaller, increase the header images on your content pages…. The list goes on.
Our Melbourne-based WordPress developers can make any changes to your existing website that you require, simply fill in our enquiry form to let us know what you want done and we’ll send you back a quote.
Content Loading & Formatting
Do you struggle to make the pages on your WordPress website look interesting and attractive? Maybe you have a lot of content and information but never have time to load it onto your website. Or perhaps its time to update the imagery on your homepage but you have no idea how to get started.
WP Sparks can load and format your content for you including changes to your homepage, the header slider, landing pages, blog articles, projects / portfolios, products in your e-commerce store and more.

There are a number of different ways you can make a WordPress website more secure. Firstly, select a reputable website hosting company that knows how to look after WordPress websites and make sure that you are keeping your plugins updated.
Installing a plugin like WordFence and configuring strong security settings is also a great option, along with enabling 2-factor authentication, limiting failed login attempts, enforcing strong username and password combinations, installing an SSL Certificate and more.
Many WordPress plugins are free (or offer free versions), but there are a lot that are paid, either as a once-off purchase price or as a licensing / subscription fee. Some of the free plugins also offer ‘upgrades’ or access to ‘pro features’ for an additional fee.
WP Sparks can help you find the right plugin option to suit your requirements, and can take care of the entire installation and configuration process for you.
WordPress themes are the template or structure / layout of your website. They dictate where things sit on your website like the header, your logo, the navigation bar etc. Often changing elements of your theme – like colours or fonts – will be reasonably easy, but changing something structural like the location of your logo will be more difficult and require custom coding.
If you think of your website as a house – your website hosting is the land that it sits on, your website theme is the framework of the house and your content is your furniture. Making a structural change to your website is like knocking down a wall and requires a professional.
When making structural changes to a WordPress theme, it is best practice to set up a child theme and complete the changes on the child theme rather than the parent (main) theme.
Just like plugins, themes or templates need updates from time to time – to make them more secure, to give you access to new features and to make them more compatible with core WordPress updates. If you have made custom changes to your WordPress theme and you update it, then you risk losing those custom changes as the theme update will overwrite them. If you make the changes on a child theme then you can update the parent theme without losing your custom changes.
No. In most cases, if you have a well-build WordPress website that is running on the latest version of WordPress then we can add the WooCommerce plugin to your existing website and configure it to match the fonts, colours and styles of the rest of your existing website.
